About Olsen Chain & Cable

We help you do the heavy lifting

Since our very beginning, we've built strong connections for and with our customers.

Our founder, Twin Cities ironworker Gene Olsen, started splicing wire rope slings in his garage in 1950. He sold the slings to local contractors, and as the area's construction industry grew, so did his business. By 1964, he was able to leave his ironworking job and officially start Olsen Chain & Cable in Bloomington, Minn. He added new products and had to move twice to accommodate his growth. Olsen Chain & Cable continued adding heavy lifting equipment, overhead lifting product lines and custom cable terminations.

Olsen Chain & Cable moved to a new facility in 1994 in Edina, MN. This facility had a larger showroom with space for meeting and training rooms. In 1998, it added hoist rental and hoist repair, plus built a large manufacturing facility in Moorhead, Minn., to meet growing customer demand in that area. They've also enhanced their product lines and OSHA compliance consulting services.

Today, construction companies and manufacturing plants continue to rely on Olsen Chain & Cable for overhead lifting equipment, equipment rent, equipment repair and OSHA inspection and consultation services. The company's online store offers abrasives, bits and blades, blocks, chain, cable and rope, fasteners, fittings, hardware, hand tools, hydraulics, power tools and safety and storage equipment.
